This course is designed for both beginning and practicing professionals, students are introduced to a variety of visual strategies that can be applied to documentary work. Focusing on themes of memory, time, landscape and proximity, we welcome a guest expert from each field for a presentation. Participants reflect on theoretical readings and visual references, creating work to present for critique in a supportive classroom environment.

Synthetic Visions: Generative AI and Visual Storytelling

Synthetic Visions explores the intersection of innovative technologies, such as synthetic images and generative AI, in regard to visual storytelling. Through lectures, hands-on exercises, and project-based learning, participants delve into the creative possibilities and ethical considerations involved in using these tools to craft compelling narratives. They also engage with industry experts and peers, receiving feedback and guidance on a visual storytelling project they develop over the course. As students refine their skills and explore the boundaries of applying emerging technologies to their practice, they learn to navigate the complex landscape of contemporary storytelling.
